About us

Baltos Kandys is an artistic group comprised of six textile artists (Austė Jurgelionytė-Varnė, Karolina Kunčinaitė, Miglė Lebednykaitė, Laura Pavilonytė-Ežerskienė, Rasa Leonavičiūtė, Julija Vosyliūtė) who have been working together since 1998. The group participates and is actively involved in organization of various exhibitions, symposiums, and educational initiatives. Baltos Kandys are helping to create the image of the innovative and interdisciplinary Lithuanian textile scene for worldwide audience.

EDUCATION

From 1995 to 2001/2002 – members of the group “Baltos Kandys” studied at Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Textile. Holders of the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree (1999) and Master of Arts (MA) degree (2001/2002).

Laura Pavilonytė-Ežerskienė: from 2007 to 2009 – postgraduate research at Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2009 gained Art Licentiate Diploma.

Austė Jurgelionytė-Varnė: from 2009 to 2012 – postgraduate research at Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2012 gained Art Licentiate Diploma.

Miglė Lebednykaitė: from 2008 to 2012 – PhD studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2013 defended PhD dissertation „Festive Aprons in the Lithuanian Culture. 19th Century–Early 20th Century“. Holder of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree (2013) – Humanities, Art Criticism (03 H), Art History (H 310).

2006 In the competition “LT Identity”, organized by the Institute of Lithuania the group “Baltos Kandys” was nominated in the category “Innovation”. The patron of the competition was the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, Vilnius, Lithuania.

2005 Years debut award for the best young artist group debut in the professional field, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.

2003 Individual state scholarship for creators of art and culture, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.

2002 Individual state scholarship for creators of art and culture, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
